As part of a comprehensive fire safety upgrade, the Royal Exchange Theatre engaged Aleron to enhance its fire protection systems, ensuring the highest level of safety for performers, staff, and guests. This crucial project aimed to meet stringent passive fire protection standards, despite challenges presented by the theatre's unique architectural features and historical significance.

Aleron's Fire Protection team, experienced in addressing the specific needs of cultural venues, meticulously installed fire-rated barriers using batt insulation and mastic sealants to achieve the required 30-minute and 60-minute fire resistance ratings. These barriers were strategically placed throughout the theatre to protect vital areas such as backstage spaces, audience seating, and technical booths.

To further enhance fire safety, Aleron addressed various penetrations, including electrical cables, lighting fixtures, sound equipment conduits, and HVAC systems. Specialised materials such as High Pressure Exerting Mastic (Graphite) and Intumescent Wrap were employed to ensure these openings would not compromise the building's fire integrity during an emergency.

With the successful completion of this project, the Royal Exchange Theatre now boasts improved fire safety measures, providing a secure environment for its artistic community and audiences. Aleron's expertise in passive fire protection has played a key role in reinforcing the theatre's commitment to safety while preserving its rich cultural heritage and continuing its tradition of theatrical excellence.
