A triple-accredited passive fire protection contractor — FIRAS, IFC and BM TRADA
Delivered by a contractor, not a training centre
A fire rating belongs to a tested system, not a tube of sealant. We train on the products our own installers use — Protecta, Quelfire, Nullifire, ROCKWOOL, FSi — and on matching each installation to its test evidence.
Every module ends where most training stops: recording what was installed, where, how and by whom.

Adam L.
“The practical day was the part that made it stick. You do the detail yourself, someone watches how you do it, and you find out there and then what you were getting wrong.”

“Doing the theory on my phone made it easy to fit around work. The knowledge checks show you straight away what to go back over.”

Alex P.
“I'd worked with these products before, but some things had never been properly explained. The sections on test evidence, penetration types and common mistakes were especially useful.”

N
Nick S.
“The course explained why a firestopping system has to be installed a certain way, not just which product to use. I'm much more confident checking the tested detail before I start.”

certificate and qualification
Know exactly what you get
NVQ Level 2
A regulated qualification, assessed on your own site work. It is the qualification CSCS asks for when you apply for a Blue Skilled Worker Card
Aleron Academy certificate and diploma
Issued by Aleron Academy: the Certificate of Completion once you finish the theory and pass the online assessment, the Diploma once you complete the practical. Each carries a certificate number and a verification link. They show you've completed our training; they are not regulated qualifications
who it is for
Is this course right for you?
Suitable if you
Install fire stopping or fire doors and need a recognised qualification to work on site
Are new to passive fire protection and want the theory first
Want the NVQ without weeks in a classroom
Manage operatives who need a consistent standard
The NVQ is assessed on your own work. To complete Tier 3 you need to be installing fire stopping or fire doors on a live site. We guarantee the NVQ result only on Tier 3, the full package — theory, practical and NVQ bought together. That is the only route where we control every stage.
Not suitable if you
Want the NVQ but aren't currently working on site – start with Tier 1 or 2 instead
Need a supervisor or Level 3 qualification
Want classroom-only training
for companies
Know who's competent before they get to the site
Give every operative the same grounding in tested systems, installation and record-keeping, then put it into practice before it matters on a live project.
Lower price per seat from 3 people — we quote once you send the enquiry
One invoice to the company
CITB-registered employers can claim a £600 grant per operative on the NVQ
Tell us about your team
Paying as a company? If you're registered with CITB and up to date with your Levy Returns, you can claim a £600 short qualification grant for each operative who achieves the NVQ Level 2 in Passive Fire Protection. You apply to CITB yourself, within 52 weeks of the achievement date.
faq
Questions we get asked
How does the ALERON Academy certificate differ from an NVQ?
Our certificate and diploma show you've completed ALERON's training. The NVQ Level 2 is a regulated qualification, assessed on your site work by [accredited centre]. Tier 3 includes both.
Do I already need to be working on site to get the NVQ?
Yes. The NVQ is assessed on work you do on a live site. If you're not on site yet, start with Tier 1 or 2 and add the NVQ later.
How long does it take, and how long do I keep access?
About 4 hours of online theory per module, which you can take in short sessions. You keep access for 3 months.
Are there classroom exams, and do I have to travel anywhere?
No classroom. Theory and tests are online. The Tier 2 practical is one full day in a group at our own training facility. We confirm the address when you book.
What if I fail the test first time?
You have up to 3 attempts at each test. The pass mark is 80%.
Can I start with theory and add the practical later?
Yes. Start with Tier 1, add the practical when you're ready, then the NVQ after that. You upgrade one step at a time from inside the course — the practical always comes before the NVQ.
Is it cheaper for a group?
Yes. From 3 people the price per person is lower than the prices on this page. We quote per group rather than publishing a rate, so send the enquiry form above with how many people and which tier, and we’ll come back with a price.
Do you have to do the theory before the practical?
Yes. Tier 2 is bookable only once the theory is finished and the test is passed. The practical day assumes you already know the systems and the test evidence — we spend it on your hands, not on the slides.
Do you guarantee I’ll pass the NVQ?
On Tier 3, the full package — theory, practical and NVQ bought together — yes. That is the only route where we take you through every stage ourselves, so it is the only one we will stand behind. If you buy the NVQ on its own or come to us part-way through, we can’t guarantee the outcome.
How do I pay as a company and get an invoice?
Send us the form above and we'll set up your team with a single company invoice.
Can I reclaim part of the cost through CITB?
Part of it, if you're employed. CITB pays a £600 short qualification grant for the NVQ Level 2 in Passive Fire Protection, but it goes to the employer, not the learner, and only to employers registered with CITB and up to date with their Levy Returns.
What device can I learn on?
Any phone, tablet or computer with a browser.
Fire protection is only as good as the person installing it
Learn the systems, put them into practice, and get the qualification to prove it
