Cementitious Spray, Vermiculite, Intumescent Paint or Boarding?
Every structural fire protection method does the same job, insulating the steel or concrete so it keeps its strength for the required period, but they differ sharply in cost, speed and appearance. This is how we advise clients:

It is the right answer for concealed steel above ceilings, car parks, basements, plant rooms, warehouses, soffits and composite decks, and for upgrading existing concrete floors. It gives up to 240 minutes fire resistance and a durable, impact-resistant finish. It is not the answer where architectural steel must stay slim and smooth.
Intumescent paint keeps the profile of exposed steel and can be finished in any colour, but it needs a compatible primer, multiple coats, controlled drying and careful film-thickness checks, so it is slower and dearer per square metre. We install intumescent coatings too, and recommend them for visible steel.
Fire boarding and encasement gives a flat, boxed finish and suits columns in finished rooms, but it is labour-intensive, adds bulk and struggles with complex connections and services.
